. About .
Spencer Thun works with a variety of artists and storytellers, often collaborating with animators, filmmakers, and serving at one point as the composer for a contemporary dance company. His interest in music began with violin instruction in the public school system, but was furthered by unrestricted access to a spinet piano and frequent experimentation with a 1987 Fisher Price tape recorder. The tactile nature of playing music remains a central theme in his work.
After graduating from the Evergreen State College with a B.A. in music and performance art, he worked toward a graduate degree in music composition at Western Washington University, where he divided his time between studying and recording music in the places he lived around Washington State. Now living in Los Angeles, he continues to make music that is driven by his strength as a string player and interest in home recording.
Spencer has contributed to the New York Times Op-Doc series, brought several scores to the Sundance Film Festival, and is currently producing music for Spotify's Drawn & Recorded series, in addition to an ongoing line of commercial work. He's always looking for new opportunities, so feel free to reach out if you're interested in collaborating on a project or would simply like to learn more.
